I'm very excited to have Jo from Brampton Tales, coming as my guest artist to my next open studio day on 17th August.
People often think of me as a collector of natures 'treasures'...
but although I do have a cabinet of curiosities and I have designed a wallpaper, a book and a collection of decorations in their honour, my treasure collection is NOTHING compared to Jo's!
Her studio in Northamptonshire is a like a giant herbarium.
She gathers and preserves the things that she finds and then uses them to create her artworks and personalised pieces for people. They have an innocent joy about them. You can tell she loves what she does.
We first came across each other on Instagram some years ago. I think I may have been designing my wallpaper at the time, or putting my book together. Anyway, she would comment on my posts and her Instagram name at the time, 'a pocket full of treasures,' always popped out to me as someone with a common interest. So, we've been chatting online for years, but have never actually met in real life. The open day will be the first.
Jo is going to bring a few artworks and an example of her bespoke pieces but mostly she's just bringing her collection for us all to be inspired by.
So come and have a play and create a character of your own - not to take away as we don't want to use up all Jo's treasures, but we will create a gallery of photos of all of our characters to share online. It's going to be fun.
Wherever you are in the world you can find Jo's work here at Brampton Tales and you can find my treasure inspired work on my website.
And you will find us both together in my Hebden Bridge studio on Saturday 17th August 11-5.
The lovely photos of Jo's work are by Melody Home Branding.
