cherry plum

Last week the blossom was just opening.

Just a few flowers in the constellation.

All the buds were getting ready to pop.

This week it has exploded!

I get lost in it every time I walk past.

Lynne, who reads my Three Somethings newsletter emailed to say it is called Prunus cerasifera, Cherry Plum. It’s nearly always the first to burst into bloom. It was originally introduced to Britain and is now naturalized especially in hedgerows. The small, orange plums make excellent jam!

I'll be looking out for those later in the year.

Hannah I really look forward to reading your 3 somethings. It’s like a little treat in amongst all the other mundane emails. Those photos of the pre-popped blossom buds is enchanting. Thank you for all your insights into nature. I am saving for some wild edge window film for when we move to our new house. Hopefully soon. Thank you 🥰
